East of Gauhati, Kaziranga wildlife Reserve is on the bank
of the Brahamputra river and is famous as the last major
home of “Rhinoceros Unicornis ”.The 430-square km park is
thought to have rhino population approaching 1000, although
in 1904 they were on the verge of extinction. The parks
become a game sanctuary in 1926, and by 1966 the number had
risen to about 400. The Park also has wild buffalo, deer,
elephants, tigers, bears and a vide variety of water Birds
including pelicans, which breed here. one of the standard
ways of observing the Wildlife is from elephant back, and
rhinos are said to have become quite used to elephant Toting
camera-packing tourists.
The Park
is at its best from February to May. There is a tourists
information center At kaziranga but you are supposed to give
10days notice for booking accomodation Or transport. They
have a minibus and jeep and also organize those elephant
rides into The long grass. There’s an entry fee for the park
and an additional charge for astill camera , plus higher
charge for telephoto lens or move cameras.
Climate:- Sub-Tropical Monsoon with average rainfall of
1320 mm and temperature ranging from 8° C in Winter to 38°
C in Summer

Air : The nearest airport is situated
at Guwahati, which is 217-km away from the park. The other
airport is located at Jorhat, 97-km from Kaziranga.

Wildlife Sanctuary, at Kohora on the NH-37, consists of a
handful of cafes and a small local market. ASTC and private
buses stop here on their way to and from Guwahati, Tezpur
and Upper Assam. Some private buses also retain a seat quota
for Kaziranga passengers.
