Day
01: New Jalpaiguri - Gangtok by surface 04 hrs.
Morning arrival at New Jalpaiguri Station, your gateway to the
Eastern Himalayas. The picturesque road journey to Gangtok, the
capital, runs parallel to the turquoise blue Teesta river. There
are places whjere you want to stop the bus and rush to touch the
water. On arrival, you will check into the hotel where hot lunch
awaits you. Evening at leasure. Dinner will be at the hotel with
overnight stay.
Day 02: Gangtok
a)
Tsongo Lake excursion with extension to Nathula pass;
b)
Helicopter ride towards Mt. Kanchendzonga (optional).
Excursion to Tsongu lake at 12,400 ft through the Kyongnosal
alpine Santuary. This holy lake is near the Chinese border & is
frozen for 4 months in winter. A 40-kms winding road takes you to
this high altitude alpine region in one & half-hours. Then proceed
to Nathula pass on the Indo-China border and peep into
China.Packed lunch will served on this excursion.
Chopper rides, if the weather is clear and subject to flight
availability, is a fascinating option at extra cost. This trip is
done early in the morning before thr trip to Tsongo lake. While
others sweat it out for months, we can arrange to take you around
Mt.Kanchendzonga and back in an hourand all at the cost of a few
extra measly ruppes.Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 03: Gangtok - Lachung. 06 hrs drive. 125 kms.
After breakfast depart for the wildrness of North Sikkim. A 06
hrs. drive The facinating jeep safari takes you across numerous
bridges over fast flowing streams and cascading waterfalls. The
wilderness is awe-inspiring. The terrain ranges from the
frightening to the fascinating. The felling of travelling into a
wildness region is all pervading. Stay at Lachung
Day 04: Yumthang Valley
Photographs of the nature scenes of Switzerland & Yumthang valley
look so similar that it is difficult to distinguish between them.
Located on a flat valley it is near the tree line and the
surrounding mountains seem to touch the heavens. It is a sight
that is awesome in its magnificence. You may also take a dip in
the hot spring in the valley. In summer, yaks graze in the valley.
The civilian population here is zero. The numbing cold is below
zero, too. The 1-1/2 hrs. journey from Lachung to Yumthang is one
of the favourite Himalayan journeys with amazing variety of flora
and landscape - an unending visual treat.
Day 05: Lachung - Gangtok
After breakfast, depart for Gangtok. See Lachung Monastery. Lunch
enroute. On the way, clean weather permitting, you get to see the
mighty Kanchendzonga range from Singhik. Arrival at Gangtok late
in the afternoon. Stay at Gangtok.
Day 06: Rush hour on the Teesta
In
the morning, we pack our bags and drive down to the campsite.
Volley ball / rugby follows. The nature lovers may like to go for
a short hike. An evening of singing and dancing around campfire!
Retire in the tents under starlit skies.
Day 07: More rafting and thrill on the river
A
farmer's breakfast at 7:00 am. More rafting for 03hrs. We complete
the stretch on the teesta and later proceed to Pemayangtse. Ater
visit to the town center to explore the quaint bazar area for
shopping. Afer lunch transfer to Pemayangtse.
Day 08: Pemayangtse
This full day excursion covers Khecheopari Lake & Yuksom.
Khecheopalri Lake is one of the sacred Buddhist mountain lake
wherever it is believed that whatever is wished in front of the
lake comes true. Myth has its that when a leaf falls on the placid
clear water surface is picked by a bird. A further drive takes you
to Yuksom (the meeting place of three monks)- the first capital of
Sikkim. This was the place where the first Chogyal (a ruling
dynasty in Sikkim) was crowned. You can still see the Norbugang
(stone throne) where he was crowned. You also visit the Dubdi
Monastery (The Hermit Cell)- the oldest monastery in Sikkim built
in 1700. You experience a typical Himalayan lifestyle at Yuksom.
Day 09 Pemayangtse - NJP
After breakfast transfer to NJP towards the plains. Your
successful assault on the land of the Kanchendzonga is now over.
