Day 1: MOSCOW
Start Moscow.
Day 2:MOSCOW
Exploring Moscow by Metro; Lenin's tomb, Tretyakov gallery to see collection of Russian Icons, the 'sculpture park' (where the torn-down communist statues are stored), and cruise on the Moskva river. Optional visits to old Russian Baths and State Circus.
Day 3:MOSCOW
Free day in Moscow for further exploration. Optional full-day visit by train to Yasnaya Polyana, country estate of Leo Tolstoy.
Day 4:IN MOSCOW
Third day in Moscow to visit St Basil's Cathedral and the Kremlin.
Day 5:YAROSLAV
North to Yaroslav with stops at Sergiev Posad monastery and Rostov Veliky to see Kremlin and museum of enamel handicrafts.
Day 6 :YAROSLAV
Free morning in Yaroslav, a pleasant river-side town; travel through Russian countryside, (possible visit to Elk farm) to Suzdal,finest town on the Golden Ring.
Day 7:MOSCOW
Tour of historic Suzdal including the Kremlin and cathedral; continue to Vladimir and visit two famous cathedrals. Return to Moscow and board overnight sleeper train to St. Petersburg.
Day 8:ST PETERSBURG
Exploring central St Petersburg including Peter and Paul fortress; afternoon at the Hermitage. Tickets for Ballet can be arranged through your leader.
Day 9:ST PETERSBURG
Take a boat to the summer palace at Peterhoff, famous for its gardens and fountains; afternoon free.
Day 10:ST PETERBERG
End St Petersburg.
